Facebook home off to a mixed start

Judging by the reviews on Google Play, they probably should have called it Facebook Marmite. It seems people are either absolutely raving about the new Facebook Home app or can’t uninstall it quickly enough. With nearly 60%of the reviews at just 1 star, the complaints are coming thick and fast, ranging from reduced battery life and excessive data usage to privacy concerns, but the main objection running through the 1957 1 star ratings is the lack of choice….

“Cool way to use facebook, but with no support for my other widgets, it limits my phone. If I wanted a single company to take over my homescreen appearance, I could use an iphone.” Lee Milstein, 1 star.

On the plus side, at least people are giving it a shot. The app has been downloaded a whopping 500,000 times since April 18th, despite only being available on just four smartphones. The key now will be whether or not Facebook can respond to the criticism in future iterations of the app, which are expected to be released monthly.

All in all I think Facebook will be pretty happy so far. The app is not for the masses; it’s for those who already live their lives on Facebook and are ready for a faster and more seamless way of doing so.

“Love how it looks but I’m just not on Facebook that often anymore. This app is definitely for the die-hard Facebook fan” Michael Hudson, 4 stars.
