My India Journey: Getting Started

unique home girls

As it’s getting scarily close to my visit to Unique Home for Girls in Jalandhar, I thought it was time to put pen to paper (well, fingers to keyboard) and start documenting the run up to the trip.

Having been put in touch with UK Trustee Tom Harrigan, I have received some great advice via email on where to stay and what to expect. Ranjit and Tom have been fantastic at helping me establish contacts over in India such as Kapil and Satnam (both of whom work for Unique Home).

Step One: Booking the Flights

Last week I got to put the wheels in motion and booked my flights. It was a long old process but I had a really helpful woman talk me through the whole thing. Katie the travel agent asked me if I had thought about sorting my visa to which I instantly replied yes. I had not in fact thought about my visa at all, but I wasn’t going to let this seasoned travelling pro know that I was novice at this.

So after realising I need a visa (!) It also dawned on me that injections would also be on the list of “To Do’s”. I’ll be ringing my Doctor at the start of March to get booked in and it has been recommended that I also take malaria tablets ahead of the trip due to how far North Jalandhar is. My intrepid traveller friend has informed me that malaria tablets give you crazy dreams, so I’ll look forward to that!

To help keep me on track in the run up, I thought I would jot down my To Do List here to help keep me motivated and ensure nothing slips through the cracks;

So as you can see, there is still a way to go but at least the big task of booking the flights is now out of the way and all being well, on the 20th April I will be on my way to the girls.
