In March it’s expected that a new Facebook app will be released that enables the tracking of your location even when the program is closed. The official explanation is that it will allow users to see when friends are nearby but sceptics are contesting that the decision is profit led as it enables local advertisers to target users more effectively.
Personally, my major concern, however, is that Facebook is being honest and that it is so that friends can constantly know your location. I have enough trouble avoiding James Macfarlane in the virtual world, so to think that he’ll now always know my physical location is an appalling prospect.
